A giveaway and pending project

I won some awesome painted stocking ornies (pictured above) :)
and she has another give away planned for December so you gals visit her blog for the details.

Thanks again Audrey
what am I up to this week....
Christmas is gettin here too fast lol I started back in October crafting and shopping for my presents and making lists for my cards to send out and I'm getting behind on everything and now i have a cookie swap to add to the list aiy ya ya LOL
Have to finish up my snowman for a swap i'm doing
address my cards and im making a lil doo dad to go with them :)
Remember that chalk board I posted that I had made? My mom confiscated that LOL so I gotta make me another WARNING train lovers look no further... LOL mom felt bad cuz she took mine so she gave me this old picture to paint over so I can make me another chalk board. Its not as large as the other but I'm gonna turn it the other way and use it...

so I'm sure there are 100 other things on my list that I need to do this week but those are a few. I"ll check in with you all on Wednesday, I'll have pics to show of my tree....YES I finally decorated it LOL.... til then hope you all have a great week.

Another ornie for the tree

I know I know I should have this tree decorated by now LOL but I had to make one last ornie for it.

After showing the last ones off, Kitty aka Pipberryprims shared an idea with us on a prim forum board about making peppermint candy ornies out of styro balls. She said one day her grandson was over at her home and he thought it was great that he could throw the styrofoam balls around in the house...well she stepped on one of them and it flattened into a perfectly round disc and all she could think of was peppermint candies.

So I tried it..... I figured the balls would crack or something but Nope... perfect round discs like Kitty had said. I had my mom and dad stepping on them while I painted them LOL too much fun

After the stripes on the candies dried I took cellophane and wrapped around them and secured on both sides with embrodiery thread to hold them in place.
The styrofoam balls were 1 1/2 inches. I painted mine green because I already have red and white candy canes for the tree.
As for painting the design on, I had trouble with that, I searched on the net for a template and found this one to go by Peppermint Candy Template. Theres probably a dozen ways you can prim these up I just chose to go with the realistic look for my tree. They would look great just sitting in a bowl or put on top of presents as toppers.
THANKS AGAIN KITTY for sharing that idea with us :)
****Starting my christmas cards now if any of you gals would like to swap Christmas Cards with me please sign up by leaving me a post here and email me your mailing address. :)
As I mentioned last time, I'll be on vacation next week so won't be on the computer to post. I want to wish you all a Happy EARLY Thanksgiving- enjoy your families and time together.

My tree this year isstill not decorated LOL having a hard time trying to come up with a spot to put it in and I need something to set it on top of to keep my doggie out of it. I have some other items I'd like to decorate with too like my prim santa suit n boots and some signs and wreaths. Sure wish one you gals would come over to help me out. I'll put on some christmas music, make some punch n cookies to nibble on it would be fun :)

Next week I'll be posting a little earlier maybe on monday evening or Tuesday because i'll be on vacation that week and away from the computer. Hopefully Ican get that tree placed and decorated and will have that to share. If any of you gals want to share pics of your decorations or home or shop please email me (eweniquetreasures@yahoo.com) I'd love to share them on Wednesday Inspirations.

Weekend finds n projects

believe

I worked my fingers to the bone literally yesterday from 7am til 8pm on ornies n such. The tree is still not decorated LOL

I think I'm done with making and gathering things for my tree. NOW I just have to find somewhere to put it. The tree is a lil too large for my space. I picked up a smaller tree this weekend but I forgot to take a pic of it so i'll share that tomorrow perhaps. Just putting bird seed lights on it and I stuck it in a bowl for display.

Greg took me prim shop hopping in Roanoke,Va. We must have visited a dozen stores. It was so much fun. Bought me these flowers and two VT mugs W00t go Hokies LOL. He also took me to an Italian restauraunt and to the movies. Sorry had to brag a lil he spoiled me rotten :)

I picked up the sign pictured above BELIEVE. Seems like everytime we take a trip I pickup a sign LOL I love them tho Ü

I'd like to thank ReNae with My Little Raggedy Blessings for giving me an idea to spruce up my recipe cards for the tree. She suggested sprinkling glitter to my cards and attaching them to cardstock. So i took that idea and ran with it, cept i used cinnamon instead of glitter then i was thinking..... well cinnamon is gonna come off so I decided to try and dip them in wax and low and behold it worked! LOL Cardstock is not flimsy now, plus it gave it an iridescent look and sealed the cinnamon. I tied some homespun to it so they can be attached to the tree.

tags1

Picked up some oranges and mom found me some apples slices which I also dipped in cinni wax apples oranges

Found these cinni bunz wax melts and filled in the back with wire and more wax so I can hang them cinni bunz

Since everyone loved the gumdrops so much I thought I'd share my sucker project as well. Lovin the way these turned out. Started out with 3 kinds of homespun, sucker sticks, glue and some 1" styro balls

Cut the fabric to about a 3.5" x 5" piece....wrapped the fabric around the styro ball, tied it off with embrodiery thread. Dipped them in cinni wax. Ran out of styro so started using polfil on the last ones it worked just as well but took longer for the wax to set up.

If you can't find sucker sticks try using cotton swabs they're a bit shorter but those or small dowel rods would work just as well. You can prim up the sticks if you like i just liked the white color it shows up better on my tree.

suckers2 suckerssuckers3

Got some more popcorn and cranberry garland

i have 4 strands now two from last year two fresh from this year so its gonna have to do that stuff is expensive

popcorn

I'd like to thank Pearl from a Storybook Life blog for featuring my gum drops on her site. and Also thank Wolfie with Cherish Yesterday blog for the blog award she gave me that i put over in the left hand column. Somehow I've lost the other awards I received so I'm making an album for them I'll post them tomorrow as well as nominations for the award I received to pass on the fun.

ONE final thing before I go...as some of you may remember back when I had a blog anniversary we did the free pattern thing that many of you helped with. I'd like to host another party for the holidays. So if you have any freebie patterns or ideas, projects etc you'd like to donate and share I'll put them in pattern form if you don't know how and post them along with your name and link to your blog or site when I Host the party. Will accept submittals starting today and end those on December 17th. any questions or if you're ready to submit contact me at eweniquetreasures@yahoo.com

Okay I think I've written a novel now LOL hope everyone has a great week, I'm off to catch up on some of my fave blogs.

Sugar & Spice

gumdrops1

As promised here are some pics of the prim projects i've been working on.

its all Ornies im making for my primtiive Sugar n Spice Tree
first up are gumdrops!
I posted some single pictures but you can click on the link to see slide show of everything plus a couple extra photos
Gen's ornies

I used a 2.5 ball of styrofoam, cut off the bottom, so it would sit flat. Punched a hole in the top using a toothpick and inserted some glue and rusty wire to use as hanger. Took my fingers and shaped the ball to look more like a gumdrop, this takes some time to do. Then i painted the styrofoam and while the paint was still wet sprinkled with glitter. Woila gumdrops

i made 3 different sizes.

I typed up a gingerbread recipe and printed it on a prim tag gonna hang these using homespun.
Not sure if i like the tag look or not, IF you gals have a better suggestion on how to do the recipe to hang on my tree please leave me a comment I'd appreciate it i'm up for any suggestions you may have.

next up is a pic of the gingers and candy canes i bought. Gingers i bought at a local store called Loose change...the candy canes i bought at joanne fabrics for half off last weekend :)

canes

gingers

Last but not least these candy canes i made myself using chenille stems: I took 2 white and 1 red and just twisted them together into the shape of a can I made these for Greg's tree. And some for some swaps im doing I need to rub them still with cinnamon and add some mica flakes to prim them up first tho.

canes2

Next week hopefully i'll have some cinni dough ornies made up to add to the tree if those turn out i'll take snaps of those as well.

I have the tree up and have the birdseed lights on it thats about it til i get all my ornies together. Not sure besides the cinni bunz if i'll make anything else or not. I plan on adding some popcorn and cranberry garland to it. Would love to have some orange or apple slices but can't find any right now. But stay tuned hard to tell what I'll end up putting on it

~Inspirations & A Get a Way~

Hope everyone had a Happy Halloween. I've enjoyed seeing all the pics of the kiddos dressed up and decorations in all of your blogs and seeing how you all celebrated.

This year I spent Halloween with Greg. We rented a cabin on the New River. Weather here is still on the warm side, so was a great time to be out and about in nature.

The leaves however are not as pretty now :( looks more like its the middle of winter. We took some pics of our cabin and the river it's located on.

Our cabin was built out of wood from an old school house. Simply decorated in a lodge feel with all the wood and fish and bear propaganda lol. It has a beautiful view of the river and of the log house lodge the owner is building across the street.

photobucket is giving me a hard time

And yes, where there is nature and cabins there are Prims too! lol we found two primitive shops in town. One was closed but we got to venture into the other store
which was half antiques and some primitives sprinkled here and there, I scored this
Quilt Sign on consignment because of a crack in it.

Okay enough bout the getaway...... on with the inspirations. I took these dollar store glitter bird ornaments and primmed em up. Self explanatory really i took glue and cinnamon applied a couple coats Woila prim birdies. Not sure where im gonna put them yet but I need to dig out my bird nests to put them in i stuck one in a candle wreath to display for the blog.

Wednesday Inspirations 10/22/08

Happy Wednesday everyone!!!!!

I have some pics to share of some of my things, i know WOW i rarely do that lol
i have less space to decorate now but it makes me even more
determined. I love to decorate and im not gonna let my situation stop me from it,
so with that said....................

I put out a couple of fall thingies in my room. I still have some more to find

just haven't unpacked all my things yet.

like above ^ this a pic of a trencher bowl i decoarted i used a
burgundy mum and its hard to see but an orange pansey was thrown
into the mixture too Virginia Tech colors :) and they're fall colors so
its a win win situation. Now i just gotta remember to water them.

Maybe mr crow will help remind me LOL.

heres a better color photo of it

Okay every year I try to get a new pumpkin guy this next one i got in Hillsville one year at that huge town flea market they have I love him, hes been a staple for me to put out every year he makes me smile. He's holding a black cat rattler

as you see hes sitting on my unfinished corner e center along with
an old scale, a wooden bowl filled with crocquet balls, and its all backed
by an old wooden cutting board.

some more pumpkin guys below and me oh my i just remembered i have a scare crow
somewhere i need to pull out and im slackin i haven't bought a new pumpkin man
this year yet to add to my collection :( the one sittin on the ledge is from a local
prim store the other i purchased at Tuesday Morning

Next pic is of a chalkboard i made. I took one of my mothers old pictures
painted over it with chalkboard paint and woila i have a new chalkboard lol
the picture was just put on heavy cardboard too not a wooden board so i was
pleasantly surprised to see it took the paint.
My room is a garage thats been converted to a living space and its
connected to my parents house so you'll see a lot of "brick" can't hang
a lot of things over it to hide it im just using nails that were previousy put
in there so im limited at what i can do but its UGLY i know i like the loft
feeling but its so cold so im trying to use lil things like this to warm it up.

i have plans on buying some O hooks and hanging them from the ceiling
shhh don't tell dad LOL and hanging a pole and a quilt over it to hide a window
leading into the house and the brick of course. Will take pics when i get that done
i have to find a ladder somewhere to reach the celiling only good thing about the
room lots of head space LOL

Theres always a "casualty of moving" ya know we lose something

or something gets broken below is my broken item my noah's ark :( ya can't see in the pic but the top deck of my noahs ark is cracked :( wasn't wrapped up when it was packed just thrown in a box and its made basically out of balsa wood i think and well its cracked now but didn't have

the heart to toss it out added some glue some paint just hope it holds together.

Its sittin on my unfinished Pie safe. This is the wall i want to cover with the

quilt

ONE LAST THING I WANNA SHOW YA

shes extreme prim..... i know there are few of us that apprecaite extreme prim
but the new special someone in my life "Greg" bought her for me so i wanted to share.
her name is GiGi :) and he surprised me with her first time we met i had
noticed her in a prim shop and he snuck behind my back and bought her for me
UNFOURTUNATELY when we got back with her and read her tag she was
suppose to have come with her prize winning sheep we contacted the shop
and they couldn't find it :( so GiGi is lonely without her prize winning sheep
but i love her just the same Thanks again Greg :)

okay so thats all i have i know not much nothing exciting but thats my life
right now i'm working on it =/

Wednesday Inspirations 10/15/08

No one submitted any links or photos for us this week :(

I do have some projects going of my own, that i'm almost finished with,
hopefully by friday or this weekend at the latest just some fall stuff
but i'll have photos to share.

I'm trying to rearrange my room.... hard to do with 12 years worth of stuff
from my house in it but oh well it will get worked out. Just weeding
thru stuff seeing what i really need to keep and tossing the rest.

I've been scouring the internet for small room ideas but i think i need
to purge some stuff before i even consider layout at this point.

If i have time this weekend i'm going to start
working on my christmas presents and get those out of the way I've
already decided what to make just have to get the time to do it.
That's all i've been up to...hope all my friends out there are having
a good week drop me a line or leave me a comment would love
to hear from you and hear/see what you're up to.

How long have you been in business and how did you come up with your business name?
We've been in business now for 5 years. Our name was really just a rambling of things that to me represented Primitive. It had to be unique and at the same time something that would continue to represent us as our company grew. I really wanted it to be a name that would stick in customers minds.

How long have you been crafting? I've been sewing for 6 years now, but have crafted most of my life. I started out as a 'cottage' lover and lived the cottage life. I had painted for a long time..then Rhumitoid Arthritis hit me at 35 and when I wasn't able to hold a paint brush any longer, I had to give it up, but I didn't want to give up living, so I taught myself to sew. And as they say, the rest is history.

What do you make? Everything Primitive. I create dolls, seasonal goods, old fashion soaps(my passion), alot of different items really. Hubby works on all the wood items we carry. I find it very boring to create one single item...say dolls...it just bores me to tears. So I work on many items. I'll sew for a while, and when I tire of that I make soaps, or work on our wood items...then I'll go back to sewing. It's a cycle I guess.

What are your favorite primitives to collect? I love unique farm items. Things that a farmer threw together because it was needed at that moment. Old cabinets made from crates.....anything wooden...tables, stools and totes. I just can't pass up a tote. I have almost a dozen of them and I always find uses for them. Ironstone! Love ironstone. I get a kick out of finding pieces one at a time. It's one collection I'll always have. It's simple and goes with everything.

What inspires you? My life. Living on a farm and being so close to nature is such a love for me. Nature and the quietness of this place helps me to focus. And nighttime. Right before I doze off I always think up new ideas. In fact some of my best ideas come to me at bedtime. I've learned to keep a notebook on the bedside table so I can jot them down right away. I never remember them in the morning.

What are your favorite tips for decorating using primitives? I collect items that I can use. I hate putting away anything. It has to stay out...and because we live in a small house, it has to function as well. I'm not a 'period' decorator. I LOVE the look of it, but it just doesn't fit my lifestyle. So I decorate with many different things. I'm an eclectic Primitive decorator I guess you can say. My one true belief that I've learned and live by is..'if you love something, and I MEAN love something, buy it' It will ALWAYS work with what you have at home. And play! Move things around. I purchase items that can live many lives. For example...a dresser that is now in my living room was once in the dining room holding platters and table linens, and before that, it was in the entryway holding rugs, winter hats and scarves. Always remember, there is no 'right & wrong' in decorating. It's all about what makes you feel good' After all, your the one that comes home to it every night and wakes up to it every morning.

Any advice for those who are decorating challenged? I'm a magazine junkie. I collect pictures, rip them right out and save them. I don't think about the picture, it just has to make me feel good. When you look at them later, you'll usually see a common pattern in them. Maybe a certain style, or a certain wood look. Maybe you find all painted furniture.....it's a great way for a new decorator to start out. When my girls moved into their own places and had no money for decorating, I had them tear out one favorite picture. Something that really gave them butterflys. And as money allowed, they created that 'picture' room in their own home. Ofcourse most items where NOT what was in the picture, but items that closely resembled each item in the picture. It was fun hunting down every piece. And it was always on the cheap. Discount stores, antique stores and flea markets where their hunting grounds. It took some time...but it was worth the end result. Best of all, it was a chance to let their own personality shine! You just can't go wrong using this idea. So go ahead, start scouring those magazines. You'll have a happy and beautiful home in no time. :o)

set up for a "surprise" party here at work today. They think if they
get me to help set up tables and stuff that i won't know its for me lol
but after 9 years of working here I know what they're up to
but I will still put on my "surprised" face when i walk out in
the showroom at lunch today. They're celebrating my bday early
cause this is the last week of work before the plant shuts down for
vacation everyone will be taking off early for friday.

Saturday is my official bday so i plan on taking a trip to some
prim stores if i do i'll sneak and take some pics for you gals :)
Always like taking my friends with me when i shop.

I was able to get back to my sister's new home this past weekend
and i took some pics for ya. Can't believe its been a year lol
this time last year i had taken pics of her other home and then
thats when i became ill and its taken me a year to get back and
